After Arbit, when most buildings on Quentin Road go dark, the Bet Midrash of Bet Aharon Torah Center stays lit. Three nights a week — Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 to 10:00 PM — the shul's night learning program fills the new building with the sound of gemara.
The program
The night seder is led by Rabbi Elchonon Rosenblatt together with our Rabbi, Rabbi Eliyahu Aboud. The chaburah is currently learning Masechet Ta'anit — page by page, with the depth and warmth that turn a weeknight into the best part of the day. Whether you learn daf after daf or are picking up a gemara again for the first time since yeshiva, there is a seat and a chavruta waiting.
Why night learning defines a shul
A shul where Torah is only read on Shabbat is a building; a shul where Torah is learned through the week is a mekom Torah. Night learning has been part of this kehila since its earliest years, and it sets the tone for everything else: children see their fathers at the gemara, baalei batim end their workday in the Bet Midrash, and the sound of learning is simply what the building sounds like at night.
